Sad News for the Section B Cast & Crew

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Section B cinematographer, William Fraker. He had a long and impressive career, working with the best directors on the planet. We are honored that he wanted to work with us. Billy was a great fan of up and coming filmmakers and gave generously of his time and expertise. Our condolences to his widow, Denise.

Billy, thank you for all the great films you shot, and for your help and advice on Section B. We love you and will miss you, and will raise a glass of scotch in your memory.

Billy's feature films included Rosemary's Baby, Tombstone, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, Bullitt, War Games, Father Goose and Divine Madness just to name a few. He also worked in television starting withThe Ozzie and Harriet show. Billy told producer Darla Rae once "Don't ever let anyone tell you it doesn't matter. It's your Dream so it does matter." We will make you proud Billy.

Nashville Recording Artist Laura Dodd will be playing the role of Lily in Section B, will open the 25th anniversay tour for Restless Heart, Friday July 31st,2009.Laura Dodd will be joined by special guest Tom Walker of Friday's Child. They are opening the new Center Stage facility in Rainbow City ,Alabama.

Heart and Soul Radio band members Schuyler Ankele, Jimmy Blair and Brian Johannsen will be featured in Section B. Their song "The Life" will also be featured. Band member Brian Johannsen will also be producing some of the tracks for the full Section B soundtrack.

I just watched Susan perform for the finals of BGT, and she still moves me to tears. I know in my heart and gut that she is the right person to play the role of Lucy in Section B. I’m sorry that she didn’t take home the prize because I feel she deserves it.
I sent an offer to Susan last month and I want her to know that the offer still stands. Hopefully now she can respond to us directly. Susan we are waiting to hear from you. You’re number one in our books.

In this weeks edition, we have a conversation with Darla Rae. Who is Darla Rae? Darla is part of what is working for the Colorado Film Industry. Darla makes movies and is choosing to do so in Colorado, tax breaks or not. Why does she do this? I personally think that people, such as Darla, who choose to create in situations that are less friendly, do it because art has an element of faith involved. To create, one must maintain a certain faith in the unknown; a belief that what they are doing needs to be done, that it is the right thing to do for the sake of the content of that art.

SECTION B MOVIE DIRECTOR CAMPAIGNS FOR SUSAN BOYLE

The producer/director of the upcoming film SECTION B, still wants Susan Boyle. Regardless of the outcome of “Britain’s Got Talent”, director Darla Rae is holding open the role of “Lucy” in SECTION B for Susan. “We will campaign for Susan to accept the role.” said Rae. “This is an opportunity for Susan to get her feet wet with a small role in an ensemble cast. Film-it Productions is absolutely aware of contractual obligations between Susan and the show “Britain’s Got Talent”; however SECTION B will shoot after the show’s finale and our offer still stands. Our offer would not impact Susan other than by giving her a positive increase financially, and a professional acting credit under her belt.”

A “Britain’s Got Talent” spokesperson was quoted as saying “We thought it was odd that they went directly to her.” But to Darla Rae, it wasn’t an odd move at all. “As a filmmaker you have to be creative and entrepreneurial.” says Rae. “In this business, you’ve got to go outside the box. We went to Susan directly, because we wanted her to know that we desired to have her join the cast. It has been my experience that many times talent never even sees your offer. In this case, we did make contact both with the show and Susan personally. As a director and producer, it is my job to field the best cast possible for the production and in the case of SECTION B; Susan will round it out beautifully.

The SECTION B cast already includes Cyndi Lauper, Tippi Hedren, Marla Maples, Ace Young (“American Idol” Season 5 finalist) and “America’s Got Talent” finalist, Queen Emily David. SECTION B supervising cinematographer is William “Billy“ Fraker, whose work has been nominated 6 times for Academy Awards.

We held the final Section B auditions today, and the Colorado actors rocked the house. We were really impressed by the level of talent that the local agencies sent us. From "manly men" to "new age ditzes", every single person brought enthusiam and talent to their readings.

We also saw several impressive singers and dancers. Kas's inner dancer came out and she put the dancers through their paces to make sure they would work for what we need. Those of us who don't dance were grateful to get to sit back at watch!

All this talent is making the final casting process both easy and difficult. So many excellent actors to choose from! Final cast decisions will be made soon.

Thanks to everyone who came to the auditions, to the agents, and to US Toys for allowing us to use their wonderful space.

Wow, it's unbelievable how busy this week has been! When Darla Rae made her offer to Susan Boyle about being in Section B, we had no idea how huge the story would get and how many interview requests would come rolling in. It started off in Colorado, with Kirk Montgomery from 9 News running the story and from there it went global - fast! Darla even got a call from a colleague in South Africa congratulating her on the movie, saying he heard the story there.

Of course the story has been changed around a bit by various news organizations. One reported that Darla was making Susan Boyle's life story and that Simon Cowell was taking over the production. Neither of those reports is accurate. Simon is not taking over (although if he wanted to be part of the film, I'm sure Darla wouldn't mind talking to him about it!) And Section B is actually based on Darla's own story of not giving up on her dream of making movies.

Darla promised her own ill mother (who passed away) that she would pursue her dream, so she went to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, in Los Angeles to study. She then wrote, directed, and produced her first feature film, The Goal, at the age of 47. After the award-winning success of The Goal, she thought the message "Don't give up on your dreams" was one that should be made into a movie. So here we are getting ready to film that movie - Section B, which is based on her life story. It just so happens that she and Susan share similar stories. Darla said she felt a connection as she watched Susan sing and that connection just grew when she read about Susan's life, which was so much like her own. (Susan studied at Edinburgh Acting School in the early '90s but was forced to leave and care for her sick mother. But she promised her that she'd audition for Britain's Got Talent.)

We haven't heard back from Susan yet. We're waiting to see if BGT will let her pursue any other projects. We'll keep you filled in when we hear something. Maybe Cyndi Lauper's advice to Susan to take the role will help! http://www.reuters.com/article/lifestyleMolt/idUSTRE53L6TH20090422
